My lessons are fully personalised and adapted to each student’s needs, level, and learning goals. I begin by identifying the student’s current understanding and areas of difficulty, so that each session is structured to maximise progress, clarity, and confidence.
In terms of format, my lessons are interactive and visually supported. I use PowerPoint presentations extensively to structure the content in a clear and progressive way. I also create my own diagrams and schematics to simplify complex biological processes and make abstract concepts easier to understand. These visual tools help students build a clearer mental representation of topics such as molecular pathways, cell processes, or genetic mechanisms.
My teaching approach is student-centred and focused on active learning. I encourage continuous interaction throughout the session, using questions and guided reasoning to ensure that students fully understand the material rather than simply memorising it. I adapt my explanations depending on the student’s level, from building foundational knowledge at GCSE level to exploring more advanced mechanisms at A-level or undergraduate level.
Beyond subject knowledge, I place strong emphasis on developing essential scientific skills. This includes interpreting data and graphs, understanding exam-style questions, and structuring clear and logical answers. I also support students in developing effective study strategies and understanding scientific literature when appropriate.
With experience as a PhD-level biologist and teaching assistant, I have worked with a wide range of learners. My goal is not only to help students improve their academic performance, but also to build their confidence, curiosity, and long-term understanding of biology in a supportive learning environment.
