I have been a language teacher and tutor for fifteen years. I have taught English as a Second Language, English as a Foreign Language and Spanish. I taught general English language to adults from all over the world in the US and professional English to native French speakers in France. I have been a university tutor, helping international students in the Business Program with speaking skills, and all students with English Composition. I have an MA in Comparative Literature and a TEFL Certificate, and am familiar with American and British spelling and writing conventions.
I have extensive experience in the business, insurance, and the legal sector in the US. As a paralegal, I drafted and proofread legal documents and supported attorneys in international law firms. In the insurance field and in business, I worked in client relations, managing correspondence, meetings and presentations. I bring together that complimentary experience to offer high-level English skills to secondary and university students – and to professionals.
My method is to:
• Assess your English proficiency and discuss your needs and interests.
• Set clear and attainable language goals to be revisited during the final class.
• Develop tailored lessons to meet your goals, including oral and written activities, vocabulary, grammar, and any specialised content. For example, activities might include preparing and practicing a presentation or interview, doing a composition or correspondence exercise, or exercises on a problem grammar issue.
• Provide ongoing feedback and resources to support your work outside and beyond our class
• Evaluate your final proficiency level against your goals and provide suggestions and resources for continued work.
My teaching style is student-centred and focused on active communication and engagement. I like to get to know my students a bit so I can work in content that is interesting and impactful for students. I really enjoy teaching language and seeing doors open for students as they improve and gain confidence.
