My lessons are structured, engaging, and always tailored to the individual student. I start by identifying strengths and weaknesses, as well as understanding the student’s goals, whether that is improving confidence, catching up in class, or aiming for top grades. From there, I build a clear and personalised approach for each session.
Each lesson typically begins with a short recap to reinforce previous material, followed by clear and step by step explanations of new concepts. I then move into guided practice, where we work through questions together, before gradually encouraging the student to attempt problems independently. This structure helps ensure that students not only understand the content but can also apply it confidently on their own.
A strong focus is placed on understanding rather than memorisation. In subjects like maths, physics, engineering and statistics, I break down problems logically so students can see how and why methods work. This allows them to tackle unfamiliar questions with confidence. For biology, I help students organise and simplify complex information so it becomes easier to retain and explain clearly in exams. For French, I focus on building confidence in speaking, grammar and comprehension through regular practice and practical conversation.
I also integrate exam technique throughout every lesson. Many students struggle not because they lack knowledge, but because they are unsure how to apply it under pressure. I guide students on how to approach different question types, manage time effectively, and present clear, structured answers that meet marking criteria.
Having worked with a wide range of students, I understand that everyone learns differently. I adapt my pace, explanations and style depending on the student, creating a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Over time, the aim is always to build confidence, independence, and a genuine understanding of the subject.
