I like to learn firstly what the student already knows about their subject, through asking basic definition questions or worded exam style questions, or even just asking what they feel is their weakest point.
Once I am able to put my foot onto what they struggle with or are more confident on, I plan a specification specific whiteboard engaged lesson going through the chapter and textbook, touching in some instances on their deepest struggles, while in other scenarios not leaving what they already know behind, strengthening their knowledge in both parties.
I am currently a science and STEM focused student who recently completed 3 A Levels, Chemistry, Biology and Maths, and is now going to a top 10 university in the UK to carry on Biology and Chemistry subjects through studying Neuroscience.
I have previously worked in environments with secondary school students teaching them biology, and for a time have run a small Youtube page to teach the OCR A Biology A Level specification. I aim to teach preferably GCSE and AS/A Level age students as this is where I feel I can be the most beneficial in their learning journey.
I have been invited by a few primary schools to speak to their children about advice for the future and enjoying their subject and it warms me to see them be excited about what they do know and what more they could learn and I would enjoy to be the help and push that some of those children need.
