I like to learn firstly what the student already knows about their subject, through asking basic definition questions or worded exam style questions, or even just asking what they feel is their weakest point. Once I am able to put my foot onto what they struggle with or are more confident on, I plan a specification specific whiteboard engaged lesson going through the chapter and textbook, touching in some instances on their deepest struggles, while in other scenarios not leaving what they already know behind, strengthening their knowledge in both parties.
