Lessons are an hour long, and will be structured but relaxed, carefully designed to balance technique and practice with musical enjoyment. Together, we will spend time learning different pieces of music tailored to your tastes; while I usually will suggest engaging repertoire, I am always open to help you learn your personal favourite songs and pieces.
We will also demystify music theory - it is far from scary and is essential to becoming a great musician! To build strong, fluid technique, we will explore scales and arpeggios, directly linking them to our theory work so everything clicks into place. Finally, we will practice sight-reading to help you read music notation fluently and independently, allowing you to explore music in your own time too.
I recognise that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to match your abilities, interests, and goals. My ultimate aim is to create a supportive, pressure-free environment where it is okay and essential to make mistakes, and how you can learn in your independent practice. Beyond the basics, we will explore how to interpret the music and learn to play it with the same passion that I have for the instrument!
Having taught primary school students up to Grade 5 standard over the past year, watching my pupils build confidence and progress has been deeply rewarding. Whether you are aiming for a distinction in your next exam, wanting to learn your favourite pieces, or just trying out something new, contact me now to start turning your musical ambition into a lifelong skill, that you will grow to love as you learn more!
