My lessons primarily rely on asking the student to tell me what they have been learning at school/what they are struggling with in school. I then build up a multitude of questions, each one harder than the last and I explain myself going through each one in detail, using real world examples and getting them to do it themselves straight after, so we can really consolidate their knowledge. From my experience teaching in an independent prep school, I have gauged that the primary reasons students struggle is because each learns and understands at their own pace, and starting from scratch and building upon this really helps them build their confidence, which is then reflected in their ability.
The content of my lessons can range from early level maths (e.g. the build up to SATS) all the way to GCSE content, all I need to know is what stage the student is at before hand (e.g. prior test results, their class work) and I will analyse this to see where they can improve and what their strengths/weaknesses are, such that I can really tailor my lessons to suit their needs and teach in a way that is beneficial to them.
