As a French tutor, I would first assess the student's level, strengths and areas for improvement, as well as understand their learning goals. I would then plan lessons with clear and achievable objectives.
I would use different strategies such as conversation, role-play, flashcards, games, pictures, listening activities and written exercises to make learning engaging. I would encourage students to speak French as much as possible and build their confidence by creating a supportive environment where they feel comfortable making mistakes.
I would differentiate my teaching according to each student's needs. For a student who is struggling, I could use sentence starters, vocabulary lists and examples. For a more advanced student, I would provide more challenging vocabulary, grammar and conversation activities.
I would regularly check understanding through questions, quizzes and short activities. I would also use repetition and retrieval practice to help students remember vocabulary and grammar.
Finally, I would monitor their progress, give constructive feedback and adapt future lessons according to their needs. My aim would be to help each student improve their French, become more confident and gradually become an independent learner.
