Over the past twenty-five years since obtaining Qualified Teacher Status, I have gained a wealth of experience by teaching mainly French. I believe students learn best when they are enjoying themselves, for this reason I try to incorporate games into my lesson whenever I can. I try to introduce elements of popular culture into my lessons whenever possible. This may be in the form of songs, clips from TV programmes or films and may feature comedy, pop music, sport, dance or food. However, it is important to tailor lessons to individual students and I will adapt my lessons accordingly. My experience of teaching French at A level also brings me great satisfaction. I greatly enjoy studying subjects in depth, especially cinema and literature and I have a keen understanding of grammar and the difficulties English speakers encounter when trying to grapple with the complexities of grammar in a foreign language. I have taught across the age range from 8 to 80. Paramount in my priorities as a teacher are the welfare and the attainment of students, and I am aware of the need to promote high standards so that all students can achieve their potential. In teaching GCSE courses to students, I have regularly delivered a pass rate of 4-9 (or A-C) between 65-80% to the students in my charge. I have a broad range of experience in creating resources for pupils of all ages with the aim of stimulating students’ interest in the topic, and I recognise that the secret to high quality is in the planning, which is also an ethic I endeavour to instil in my students. I also believe that the promotion of extra-curricular activities is a major motivational factor in encouraging students to study languages and for this reason I will encourage them to watch television in French and listen to French singers or radio whenever they can outside of lessons.
