English Literature can be a particularly difficult subject to identify weaknesses in because it is not always black and white. English Literature can be a particularly difficult subject to identify weaknesses in because it is not always black and white. There is no simple 1 + 1 = 2 answer, and a student can understand a text perfectly well but still struggle to turn their ideas into the kind of analysis an exam requires. Sometimes they may not even know exactly what they are struggling with.

That is something I take time to understand before deciding what we need to work on. Lessons are relaxed and interactive, with the focus changing depending on the student. We might analyse a difficult quotation, explore a theme or character, plan an essay, improve written work or practise exam questions.

Having studied GCSE English Literature myself, I understand how overwhelming it can feel when you are expected to find deeper meanings in a text and explain them in a way that earns marks. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and saying when something does not make sense, so we can approach it from a different angle rather than simply moving on.

My aim is for each lesson to leave students with a clearer understanding of both the subject and their own strengths and weaknesses, while gradually building the confidence and skills they need to work independently in their exams.
