CELLO
My approach to cello tuition blends traditional cello schooling with a custom approach to each student’s personal interests and niches. I aim to first hone and build confidence technique wise through a blend of scales, sight-reading, aural training and Christopher Bunting cello exercises. I then focus each lesson on a medium-term study and long-term piece project, usually contrasting in character. The piece and study selection are also balanced between ABRSM grade lists and student-elected pieces that they would like to play. Incorporating styles that students listen to on a regular basis into cello tuition also remains a focus of my pedagogical style.
ACADEMIC MUSIC
My academic tutoring style focuses on building confidence, precision, and independent thinking. In Music, this includes support with listening analysis, harmony, composition, essay writing, exam technique, and coursework development. My Oxford training enables me to help students engage with musical ideas while also improving the clarity and sophistication of their written responses. I tailor lessons to each student’s goals, strengths, and interests, while maintaining high academic standards and results.
MUSIC PRODUCTION
I offer structured, engaging music production lessons centred on developing both technical skill and critical listening. Each session begins with a “track of the week,” where students analyse a chosen piece to identify techniques, sounds, and production choices, building a broad musical awareness and critical ear. I then incorporate short, accessible insights into the history of music production—from the 1960s to today—highlighting influential producers, recordings and how certain studios and albums have lcontributed to the recorded art form in today's world. Lessons then conclude with a hands-on approach to developing tracks, projects and assignments, where students refine their own songs and compositions with guided, practical feedback.
