Anjali Narayanan

I am a compassionate tutor with experience teaching science, Maths and English to GCSE and A Level students.

This year, I have been professionally tutoring students ranging from year 7 to A level in Science and Maths, cultivating a different, personalised approach for each student based on their learning stage and style.

Prior to university, I tutored students in both Biology and Chemistry at GCSE, taking a compassionate and patient approach with each one, focusing on high yield techniques to maximise success in GCSE exams. I also mentored a year 12 Maths student in the run up to their final exams, guiding them from a C to a predicted A* in only a couple of months.

Beyond school subjects, I have considerable experience mentoring students with their medical school applications, as well as younger students in music ensembles.

I carry my recent experience and familiarity with the education system into my teaching, prioritising efficiency, deep understanding of subject matter, and exam technique in order to minimise stress and maximise success for all my tutees. I prioritise building a friendly, trusting relationship with students to maximise engagement and facilitate a two-way dialogue relating to their progress and concerns.

What I focus on:
1) Deep understanding: Since problem solving and application are so prominent in A Level science papers, having a strong comprehension of subject matter is crucial in order to be able to tackle this. I meet my tutees where they're at and work from their to build solid foundations.
2) Exam technique: I extensively teach the language, structure and approach I used in every exam to access every mark. I cement technique through lots of guided and timed exam practice, and active recall.
3) Individualised support: I appreciate that each student learns uniquely - while some thrive under structured guidance, others will prefer more independence. How lessons take place will be determined through ongoing conversations with my tutees to make our time as productive as possible.
