I particularly like to help students visualise concepts by drawing pictures and flow diagrams so that they can link concepts in their head, which works well with biological processes, alongside the use of analogies to support students in remembering difficult topics. After teaching a subtopic/topic, I will encourage my students to attempt exam questions which we would then compare with the mark schemes to identify their knowledge gaps and see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. To help fill these gaps, I would go over the areas they struggled with again and get them to attempt the exam questions a second time, making sure they focus on the wording of their answers and how they apply their answers to the given scenario.
I also like to make sure that students are still revising effectively outside of tutoring hours, so I will usually recommend different revision methods that have worked really well for me in the past and encourage them to try each one to see what works best for them.
