I am a dedicated and enthusiastic practitioner who enjoys new challenges. I am an excellent classroom teacher with strong pastoral skills. In my career I have worked in a wide variety of schools and have taught students aged from five to eighteen years. Whatever the situation, certain aspects of my teaching remain immutable: a warm, friendly personality, a commitment to high standards and an ability to engage students in their learning, helping them to become the very best they can be.
I always aim to make sure that that learning is stimulating, meaningful, relevant and fun. Wherever possible I seek to broaden the curriculum. I enjoy planning and delivering creative, stimulating lessons that capture the students’ imagination and raise interest and attainment in their learning.
I have high expectations of the children in my care and seek to maintain good discipline within a purposeful, stimulating learning environment, in which children feel safe to take risks and make mistakes. Students enjoy learning and enjoy being taught by me. ‘Be the best you can be,’ is something I have always been extremely passionate about and I have found that praise, encouragement and celebrating achievement are vital in helping students achieve their best. Success comes from hard work, determination and an ability to push yourself to achieve your potential. I believe if a student has someone teaching them who believes they can do it, then they can. I always strive to ensure high quality learning and teaching that leads to improved standards of attainment for all students.
My career as a Primary school teacher was greatly affected by the Covid outbreak and I was required to teach online for two and a half years, teaching whole classes, small groups and individuals. Recent events have shown that adaptability, resourcefulness – alongside an ability to work under pressure with constantly changing circumstances – are vital skills. I have quickly adapted to the delivery of the curriculum through the online learning platform. Indeed, many of the new skills and tasks that I have planned, such as asking students to make videos explaining their reasoning or role playing characters, have been extremely successful and allow students to excel in areas that they previously found challenging. This has tremendous benefits with students who may struggle with self-confidence or may have behavioural and learning issues.
