I have completed the IB Diploma and am currently in Medical School. I have previous experience with teaching students from different backgrounds and have had to adapt my teaching and communication techniques to cater to each student. My past teaching experiences include teaching Kumon students ranging from ages 10-16, underprivileged students in high school, and am a prospective Basic Life Support tutor at medical school. These experiences have helped me understand different students, their strengths and weaknesses, and how to approach these effectively to produce tangible outcomes.
I believe in using visual aids to teach. Instead of reading from power-points or from textbooks directly, I prefer to first condense information in the form of pictures/ videos to explain a concept. After understanding the basic concepts, I shift to the school's textbooks to avoid missing out on any important information. I also believe active recall is important to remember information, especially in an information heavy subject like Biology, hence I like to ask questions to my students at the end of the class in the form of fun, interactive quizzes to ensure they can apply their knowledge appropriately. Reflection is also key to my teaching pedagogy and I keep my lessons student-led, so if my student wants to focus on any particular topic, I will alter my lesson plans accordingly, while still sticking to the curriculum. I wish to present myself as a friend to my students and make sessions fun and engaging.
Additionally, if any student requires career counselling on the medicine application process, I am more than willing to help them out regarding this.
Thank you.
