Hi, I’m Amanda! I’m a friendly and patient Maths tutor with experience supporting students from KS1 through to GCSE. I want to help students feel more confident in Maths, especially if they find certain topics difficult or feel like they’re falling behind.
I know that not everyone learns in the same way, so I wouldn’t expect every student to understand something just because it’s been explained once. I’d take the time to understand what they struggle with and find a way of explaining it that works for them.
With younger children, I’d focus on getting the basics right, such as counting, number recognition, addition and subtraction. I’d use simple examples, visuals and fun activities to help them understand concepts without making lessons feel overwhelming.
I’d help students build on those foundations by working on areas like times tables, fractions, decimals and problem-solving. I’d break questions down step by step and help them prepare for SATs where needed, making sure they understand what they’re doing rather than just memorising answers.
Secondary school Maths can be a big step up, particularly when topics like algebra and ratios are introduced. I’d work through examples with students, explain things in different ways when needed and gradually help them become more confident working through questions independently.
For GCSE students, I’d focus on the topics they find most difficult, practise exam-style questions and help them understand where they’re going wrong. I’d also work on exam technique and revision, so they feel more prepared and confident going into their exams.
If a student doesn’t understand something, I won’t just repeat the same explanation and hope it clicks! I’d try a different approach, use a simpler example or relate it to something they already understand. I’d also adjust the pace depending on how they’re getting on, giving them more time where needed or introducing harder questions when they’re ready.
I have experience tutoring students across KS1, KS2, KS3 and GCSE Maths, supporting different ages, abilities and levels of confidence. Outside of tutoring, I have a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering and a master’s degree in Façade Engineering. I’m also a Youth Ambassador and STEM Ambassador, and I’m passionate about supporting young people with their education and helping them explore future opportunities. Alongside Maths, I’m happy to offer guidance on STEM careers, university and further education pathways. Ultimately, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes and progressing at their own pace.
