Hello! I'm Ali, a native Arabic speaker from Syria and a PhD researcher with university teaching experience.
I've always enjoyed explaining things and helping people understand ideas that might seem difficult at first. During my doctoral studies, I worked as a teaching assistant in Academic English and DFT Methods, where I taught university students, supervised their activities, assessed assignments, and helped them overcome learning difficulties. I've also been involved in my university's Arabic Language Club, where I've had the opportunity to share my language and culture in an international environment.
My experience in scientific translation between Arabic and English has also given me a strong appreciation for Arabic grammar, vocabulary, and the subtle differences that can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
So, what can you expect from my lessons?
First, I'd like to understand why you're learning Arabic and what you hope to achieve. Perhaps you want to communicate with Arabic-speaking friends, prepare for travel, improve your professional opportunities, or simply discover a new language and culture.
We'll build our lessons around your interests, your current level, and your preferred learning pace.
If you're a beginner, we'll start with pronunciation, the Arabic alphabet, everyday expressions, and simple conversations. If you already speak some Arabic, we can work on fluency, grammar, reading, writing, and more natural communication.
I can help you with both Modern Standard Arabic and the Syrian/Levantine dialect.
One thing I particularly care about is pronunciation. I have a clear, expressive speaking voice, and I enjoy helping learners recognise and reproduce Arabic sounds accurately. I also believe that encouragement matters just as much as correction. You should feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and practising without embarrassment.
I prefer lessons that involve genuine conversation rather than endless memorisation. We'll use practical examples, short exercises, and regular feedback so you can see how you're progressing.
Above all, I want our lessons to be a place where you feel motivated, supported, and genuinely excited to learn Arabic.
I look forward to meeting you!
