My lessons are tailored to the needs of each individual student, as I recognise that students will have different strengths, areas for improvement and ultimately different goals. Whether a student needs support with a particular topic, wants to improve their GCSE or A Level grade or is looking to develop greater confidence in Geography, lessons will be planned around what will help them make the most progress.

I focus first on making sure students genuinely understand the geography behind what they are learning rather than simply memorising information for an exam. Once that understanding is secure, we can then focus on applying their knowledge to exam questions and developing the skills needed to access the higher marks.

As a qualified Geography teacher with a PhD in Human Geography and 15 years of experience as an IGCSE examiner, I have a strong understanding of both the subject and how Geography examinations are assessed. I have also marked specialist Geography examinations for Cambridge, including the Geography component of Pakistan Studies. This experience means I can help students understand what examiners are actually looking for, identify where they are losing marks and develop more effective exam technique.

Geography has also always been a significant part of my life outside of education. I am a qualified Summer Mountain Leader and have spent many years exploring and working in mountain environments. This practical experience allows me to bring Geography to life beyond the textbook and draw on real-world examples when explaining geographical processes, landscapes and the relationship between people and the environment.

Most importantly, I want my lessons to be supportive and approachable. Students should feel comfortable asking questions, getting things wrong and working through areas they find difficult. My aim is to help students develop a deeper understanding of Geography and become more confident and independent in their own learning, while ultimately turning that improved understanding into better exam results at GCSE and A Level.
