My lessons are friendly, engaging and tailored to each student’s individual needs. Having worked with children and young people from KS1 to KS4 for over six years, I have experience teaching Maths, English and Science, as well as preparing students for 11+, SATs and GCSE examinations.
I usually begin by identifying the student’s current strengths, areas for improvement and specific goals. From there, I structure lessons around a combination of explanation, guided practice and independent work. I believe students learn best when they understand why something works, rather than simply memorising a method, so I use practical examples and clear, relatable explanations wherever possible.
Lessons are interactive, with plenty of opportunities for students to ask questions, explain their thinking and learn from mistakes. I adapt the pace and difficulty depending on the student, providing additional support where needed while gradually encouraging greater independence and confidence. I aim to include both student interests as well as current and contemporary examples to help students understand topics in greater depth!
For exam preparation, lessons can include focused topic revision, exam-style questions, time-management techniques and strategies for approaching challenging questions. For younger students, I incorporate more varied activities and real-life examples to keep learning enjoyable and maintain concentration.
I also have experience supporting students with additional learning needs, including ADHD, ASD and global developmental delay, and I understand the importance of adapting teaching methods to suit different learning styles.
Above all, the aim of every lesson is for the student to leave feeling that they have made progress, understood something new and are more confident than when they started.
