My lessons are engaging, interactive and designed to make history feel interesting and accessible. I believe students learn best when they are actively involved, so my lessons often include discussion, questioning, retrieval activities and opportunities to explore historical evidence and different interpretations.
I use a clear and structured lesson format, beginning by checking prior knowledge before introducing new content in manageable stages. I explain key ideas clearly, model tasks and provide support where needed before giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge independently. I regularly use questioning and mini-checks for understanding to identify misconceptions and adapt my teaching to the individual student.
As a trained secondary History teacher with a History degree and teacher training experience, I have taught a wide range of historical topics across Key Stages 3 and 4. These include the Roman Empire, medieval Britain, the Tudors, the Industrial Revolution, the First World War and Nazi Germany. I also have experience supporting students with GCSE-style questions, source analysis, historical interpretations and extended writing.
My teaching style is positive, patient and relational. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and getting things wrong, while still being challenged to improve. Whether a student needs help building confidence, strengthening their historical knowledge or improving their exam technique, I tailor lessons to their needs and focus on making progress clear and achievable.
Most importantly, I aim to make every lesson enjoyable and purposeful, helping students develop genuine curiosity about the past while becoming more confident, independent learners over time.
