I am a patient, caring and organised tutor with experience working with young children at Toddlertown Preschool.

I teach in a patient, fun, and child-centred way. I believe that every child is unique and learns in a different way, so I never use the same method for every child. Before I start teaching a new student, I take time to understand the child, their age, their level, their strengths, their weaknesses, and what they enjoy. I also listen to the parents to understand what they want their child to achieve and where the child is struggling. This helps me to plan lessons that are personal, simple, and enjoyable for that child. My lessons always begin with a warm welcome. I greet the child by name, smile, and have a short friendly chat to help the child relax and feel comfortable. I believe that a child learns best when they feel safe, happy, and confident. If a child is scared or nervous, they will not learn well. So I always create a calm and friendly environment where the child can ask questions without fear. After the welcome, I do a short recap of what we learnt in the last lesson. This helps the child to remember and to connect the old lesson with the new one. I explain things in very simple language and I teach step by step. I do not rush the child. I break big topics into small and easy parts so the child can understand one part before we move to the next. If a child does not understand something, I do not get angry or frustrated. I will explain it again in a different way, using examples, pictures, songs, stories, drawings, or real-life objects. For example, if I am teaching counting, I can use fingers, toys, fruits, or pictures. If I am teaching phonics, I can use songs and sounds to make it fun. I repeat as many times as needed until the child understands. For young children, I use a lot of play, rhymes, flashcards, games, and interactive activities. Children learn faster when they are having fun. I use colourful materials, storytelling, and action songs to keep their attention. I also allow the child to talk, sing, draw, and play during the lesson, because learning should not be boring. I make sure my lessons are active and not just sitting and listening. For Phonics and Reading, I start with letter sounds, then blending, then simple words, then sentences, and then short stories. I encourage the child to read aloud, I praise their effort, and I gently correct their mistakes. I use repeated practice and fun reading games to help the child remember sounds.
