I believe the best way to learn Portuguese is by using it from the very first lesson, so I build my classes around real conversation, adapting the pace and content to each student's level and goals. Over more than a decade teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language to adult learners of different nationalities and backgrounds, I have found that a good balance between structured grammar and natural, spoken practice is what helps students gain both accuracy and confidence. I design each lesson individually, moving from first conversations to more advanced grammar and cultural nuance as the student progresses, and I regularly adapt materials so they reflect what each learner actually wants to talk about, whether that's daily life, work, travel or Brazilian and Portuguese culture more broadly. My PhD in Language and Literature has given me a deeper understanding of the language's richness, something I enjoy sharing with students who want to go beyond textbook Portuguese. I am patient, well organised and genuinely enjoy adapting my teaching style to what works best for each learner, and I want every student to finish a class feeling they have understood something new and are a step closer to speaking with real confidence.
