Engaging Online Biology Lessons for GCE Students by a Passionate Microbiology Tutor

INTRODUCTION – PART-TIME BIOLOGY TUTOR Dear Hiring Manager, My name is Nasirat Bello, and I am writing to express my interest in the part-time Biology teaching position. I am passionate about education, science, and helping students develop a better understanding of the world around them through learning. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Nigeria, with an expected graduation year of 2027. My academic background has provided me with a strong foundation in biological sciences, including microbiology, cell biology, genetics, ecology, physiology, and other important areas of life science. My interest in teaching goes beyond simply explaining topics or helping students complete their academic tasks. I genuinely enjoy sharing knowledge, making difficult concepts easier to understand, and helping learners become more confident in their abilities. I believe Biology is an interesting and practical subject that should not be taught through memorisation alone. Students should be encouraged to understand how living organisms function, interact, grow, reproduce, and adapt to their environments. I also have practical teaching experience gained while working in a private secondary school during my Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). This experience gave me an opportunity to interact with students, understand some of the challenges they face in learning, and appreciate the importance of patience, clear communication, preparation, and effective teaching methods. As a Biology tutor, my approach would be centred on making lessons engaging, interactive, and easy to understand. I intend to break down complex topics into simpler explanations, use relatable examples from everyday life, encourage students to ask questions, and create an environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves and participating in lessons. I understand that every student has a different learning ability and pace. Therefore, I am willing to adapt my teaching methods to meet individual learning needs.
