Advert description
Hi, my name’s Joe and I’ve been a tutor for over 4 years, doing over 250 hours of lessons in that time. I’m currently a student at the University of St Andrews, studying English Literature, French and Arabic, having achieved 11 Grade 9s or equivalent at GCSE, and 3 A*s at A-Level, including 100% in my English Literature coursework. I am very proud of these results, and the work I put in to achieve them, however I didn’t always work to such a high level at school, and there were numerous occasions before my exams when I simply felt stuck, unable to improve my scores, even in English and French. However, after much trial and error, I found a method of work and revision which worked for me, it worked for my friends whom I shared it with, and I believe it will work for you too. It was a simple tactic which involved rethinking the way I viewed exams and learning and allowed me to produce a formula for successful essays which I could reproduce time and time again, including in the exams. I’ve always been an obsessive reader, and I believe that this enrapture for English and Modern Languages is a skill that can be learnt, rather than one people are innately born with. As such, through my lessons, I will prove that there is a way to enjoy the process of learning about literature, even though it may first appear tough. I believe there is no such thing as a bad English student, only one who has been taught using bad methods, which strip the joy and enthusiasm out of the study of literature and language, a joy and enthusiasm which I will endeavour to spark through my lessons. Outside of academics, I am a keen sportsman, having coached cricket to groups of younger children, as well as continuing to play rugby for my University, I was Deputy Head Boy at school and a Drama Scholar, taking lead and supporting roles in various productions. Thank you very much and please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
