I have a 4-year integrated masters in Biology from the University of Oxford and A*A*A*A in maths, physics, biology and further maths at A-level, so I am well qualified to help your child.
I have a lot of experience working with teenagers and kids, including 4 years of private tutoring experience in maths physics and biology up to A-level, and I really enjoy helping students to feel more confident in themselves and their abilities. I have taken all of my students to either A/A* level by the time they completed their exams.
The lessons themselves:
I design online lessons based on the student’s current stage and learning goals. In terms of structure, I prioritise the student's understanding of a concept. Whilst I will demonstrate each concept clearly (using an online whiteboard), most of the lesson will be spent working through examples together, allowing the student to independently answer, with some support, to push them further when they find themselves stuck. I find that this is most effective in building confidence and understanding of a subject. Most exam boards prioritise application and deeper understanding over memorisation of facts, and so my sessions focus on ensuring students can obtain this deeper understanding of a topic, and apply it to new situations, as well as learning the ins and outs of their specific exam board's mark scheme.
I also am able to provide regular assessments to track student progress, depending on their goals and weekly time available.
