I provide expert English Language and Literature tuition for pupils and students from age nine upwards, covering 11+, 12+ and 13+ entrance examinations, GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, university entrance and Oxbridge applications, as well as undergraduate and adult learners.

I teach across all major schools and examination boards, tailoring every lesson to the individual student.

What I offer
Teaching English, a subject I have always loved, is my vocation. I am fully dedicated to my students and take great pride in helping each one achieve their highest potential.
Every student is different, so I prepare individual lessons according to their particular strengths, weaknesses and goals. I frequently use materials I have personally developed, and any homework I set is carefully chosen to build knowledge, improve exam technique and, importantly, nurture confidence and self-esteem.

I teach pupils from nine years old onwards and work with students at all levels, from those seeking general improvement to those aiming for the very highest examination grades and competitive school or university places.

Entrance examinations
For grammar-school entrance examinations, I recommend beginning tuition around two years in advance where possible, and at least one year before other independent-school entrance examinations.
I have enjoyed considerable success with 11+ candidates, including pupils who have gained scholarships of up to 20% of school fees. I also support pupils applying for scholarships in other areas, including art and drama.

My pupils have achieved scholarships at Surbiton, St Teresa’s and Notre Dame, as well as offers of places at Lady Eleanor Holles, Surbiton High, Guildford High, St Teresa’s, Sir William Perkins, St John’s, Reeds and Claremont Fan Court.

GCSE and A Level
For GCSE and A Level students, I recommend starting tuition as early as possible in the course. English cannot effectively be “crammed” at the last minute. Strong results come from thorough preparation, regular practice and a clear understanding of examination requirements.
I focus particularly on exam strategy, technique and effective revision, alongside developing the underlying language and literary skills required by the syllabus.
