My Teaching Method and Approach
My teaching approach focuses on making science simple, engaging and enjoyable. As an MBBS graduate from AIIMS Bathinda and a Gold Medalist in Medicine, I have developed a strong understanding of scientific concepts and the ability to explain complex topics in a clear and structured way. I believe every student can succeed in science when they receive the right guidance, encouragement and learning support.
1. Understanding each student’s needs
I begin by understanding the student’s current knowledge, learning style, strengths and areas for improvement. I encourage students to share which topics they find difficult and what they hope to achieve. This helps me tailor lessons to their individual needs, whether they want to strengthen their basic understanding, prepare for examinations or improve their confidence in science.
2. Breaking down complex concepts
I believe science becomes easier when complicated ideas are divided into smaller, manageable steps. Rather than asking students to memorise information without understanding it, I explain the underlying principles using simple language and logical examples. I use diagrams, flowcharts, analogies and everyday situations to make abstract concepts easier to understand and remember.
For example, when teaching human biology, I can connect physiological processes to familiar experiences, helping students understand not only what happens in the body but also why it happens.
3. Encouraging active learning
I want students to participate actively rather than simply listen to explanations. I encourage them to ask questions, explain concepts in their own words and work through problems independently. I use short quizzes, practice questions and discussions to check understanding throughout each lesson. This approach helps identify gaps in knowledge early and allows me to address misconceptions before moving to more advanced topics.
4. Making lessons engaging and relevant
I use real-life examples to demonstrate how science relates to everyday life. My medical background allows me to bring practical examples into biology lessons, particularly when discussing the human body, health and disease. I aim to spark curiosity and help students see science as an interesting subject rather than a collection of facts to memorise.
