I tailor every lesson to the individual student, whether they're aiming to improve confidence, prepare for exams, or simply deepen their understanding of history. I start by identifying where they're currently at, then build lessons that are engaging, well-structured and focused on their goals.
Rather than relying on memorisation, I encourage students to understand the bigger picture, make connections between events and develop the analytical skills needed for essays and exams. We'll work through source analysis, essay structure, exam technique and revision strategies, using plenty of discussion and practice questions to reinforce learning.
As an experienced one-to-one tutor, including supporting students with SEN, I'm used to adapting my teaching style to suit different learning needs. My aim is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence and making consistent progress.
I believe the best learning happens when students are actively involved, so my lessons are conversational and interactive rather than lecture-based. I encourage curiosity and critical thinking, helping students not only learn historical facts but also understand why events happened and how they continue to shape the world today. Whether we're studying the Tudors, the World Wars or modern political history, I adapt the pace and teaching style to suit each learner. My goal is to help students leave every lesson feeling more confident, motivated and equipped with practical skills they can apply in the classroom and in exams.
If this sounds like you or your child, please reach out and I'd love to discuss a flexible arrangement.
