Secondary Biology and Study Skills Tutor/Teacher

I am a retired high school teacher with 40 years of experience teaching
various science subjects. These subjects include biology, life science,
anatomy and physiology, general science, physical science, health science,
Algebra I and U.S. History. I have also tutored in elementary reading and
math, and study skills for struggling college freshmen. My teaching style is more traditional with a focus on understanding vocabulary, but, not memorizing facts. In a traditional biology class, there are more new words introduced to students than in the first year of a foreign language class. These new words often make understanding complex
concepts more difficult. I also believe in integrating other subjects into the
curriculum. An example would be teaching any math concepts which are necessary to accomplish student goals. I also include related lessons from history, as well as, life skills and common knowledge to promote a healthy lifestyle. This integration makes biology more relevant to students.
