A highly experienced, passionate and inspirational teacher, I have taught in the private and state school sectors as well as from my home for over three decades.
Piano is my main specialism. I have two diplomas in piano teaching as follows - ARCM,0 LGSM.
I also teach theory and offer support lessons in composition for GCSE and 'A' level students.
Success rate in exams for both ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall boards is 98%.
Lessons are tailor made to suit the individual student. All aspects of general musicianship are included with the aim of enriching the potential pianist's ability and understanding.
Repertoire, sight-reading, technical exercises and aural from Prep test to diploma level are covered.
I have a reputation for developing an excellent rapport with students ranging from age 4 to 84!
Although lessons are disciplined and structured, fun learning methods are incorporated, via the participation in duets, and the undertaking of alternative methods in scale and arpeggio practice. As a result, pupils soon overcome the universally acknowledged belief that technical work is onerous.
Opening up the imagination of a student is a perogative and aids the best characterisation and interpretation of pieces. Public performance as well as playing to friends and family is encouraged and I support those wishing to take part in Festivals and recitals.
Exam taking is not compulsory and I am equally happy to steer a pupil toward an exam, as I am to allow them to play for pleasure. I am proficient at teaching all genres of music from Classical to Rock and Pop.
