Personal Statement

As a dedicated and passionate linguist with a BA in Modern Languages from Imo State University and currently pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at the University of Portsmouth, I've developed a strong foundation in French and German. My enthusiasm for languages is not just academic; it's a personal passion that drives my career aspirations. I'm excited about the opportunity to join your Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department, share my passion, and inspire young learners to achieve exceptional progress in their linguistic development.



My journey into languages began with a fascination for the way languages open doors to new cultures, perspectives, and ways of thinking. At Imo State University, I immersed myself in French and German, exploring their cultural contexts, histories, and literary traditions. I excelled in courses that examined Francophone literature and German culture, deepening my appreciation for the transformative power of language and solidifying my desire to teach.



Currently, I'm translating my academic foundation into practical teaching expertise through my PGCE at Portsmouth. The program has equipped me with cutting-edge pedagogical strategies and a nuanced understanding of classroom dynamics. My placement at Carisbrooke College on the Isle of Wight has been a pivotal chapter in this journey, where I've taught French to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, honing my ability to deliver engaging and effective lessons.



I've developed a student-centered approach, recognizing the diverse needs within a classroom and differentiating tasks to ensure every student can progress. My lessons are designed to be inclusive, and I've seen marked improvement in students' outcomes, with several exceeding their predicted grades. I've also sharpened my ability to connect with students on a personal level, creating a classroom environment where pupils feel safe to take risks and express themselves.



While French is my primary focus, my background in German remains a vital part of my linguistic identity. I'm eager to bring German into the classroom, exploring German culture through lessons that might examine Oktoberfest traditions, the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, or modern German cinema.



As an Early Career Teacher (ECT), I'm drawn to this role because of its emphasis on professional development and supportive environment.
