My approach to tutoring primary-aged children in maths is to create a positive, supportive and engaging learning environment where every child feels confident to learn at their own pace. I use a range of teaching methods tailored to each child's age, ability, learning style and individual needs, helping them to develop a strong understanding of mathematical concepts and a positive attitude towards maths.

I use practical, visual and interactive teaching methods to make learning enjoyable and accessible. This includes hands-on resources such as counters, number lines, dice and everyday objects to help children understand concepts before moving on to written calculations. I incorporate games, puzzles and real-life examples to develop key skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, shape, measurement and problem-solving.

I follow a step-by-step approach to learning, breaking down challenging concepts into smaller, manageable tasks. I model examples, explain mathematical vocabulary clearly and encourage children to talk through their reasoning. I use questioning to check understanding, identify misconceptions and help children develop independent thinking skills. Where appropriate, I use the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach, allowing children to progress from practical resources to visual representations and then to formal mathematical methods.

I recognise that every child learns differently, so I adapt activities to suit their individual needs and build on their existing knowledge. I provide additional support and repetition where needed.
