Qualified Science Teacher & Former Head of Science | AQA Examiner | 11 Years’ Experience | Makes Learning Stick!

I’m a qualified Science teacher with 11 years’ experience teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and I specialise in Chemistry. I’m also a former Head of Science and an AQA Science examiner, so I know what examiners are looking for and can help you turn what you know into marks.

I believe Science should be interesting, memorable and enjoyable. That might mean creating a song to remember the structure of the heart, using a ridiculous story to help a tricky concept stick, or finding a completely different way of explaining something until it finally clicks!

My approach is simple: we find a way.

If you don’t understand something the first time, that’s absolutely fine. I’ll explain it differently, draw it, model it, use an analogy, show you visually or break it into smaller steps. There is no ceiling on what I think you can achieve – we just need to find the way of learning that works for you.

I use lots of low-pressure quizzes and retrieval activities to help you remember what you’ve learned. These aren’t there to catch you out! They help us work out what you already know, what we need to practise and, most importantly, allow you to see your own progress and build confidence.

For students working towards GCSEs, we’ll spend plenty of time on exam technique too. Being an AQA examiner means I can show you how to approach different questions, understand command words, apply your knowledge to unfamiliar situations and make sure you’re actually getting the marks for what you know.

Most importantly, I want my sessions to be somewhere you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and having a go, without a fear of failure. Getting something wrong is part of learning, and I want you to feel confident enough to try, take risks and challenge yourself without worrying about making mistakes.

My goal is for you to finish each session knowing more, remembering more and feeling more confident in what you can do.
