Advert description
Hi, I’m Ceren, an English Literature tutor with a BA degree in English Language and Literature and over 5 years of experience working with students.
I specialise in English Literature rather than general English or grammar teaching. I help students understand literature deeply, build strong interpretations, and express their ideas clearly in essays and exams.
I work with students studying IB English A, A-Level, GCSE, IGCSE, AP Literature, and other high-school literature programmes. I also work with students who simply want to read and understand literature at a deeper level.
My lessons can focus on:
• Close reading and literary analysis
• Poetry, prose and drama
• Characterisation, themes, symbolism and literary devices
• Understanding context and authorial choices
• Finding and using textual evidence
• Developing strong interpretations and arguments
• Essay planning, structure and academic writing
• Comparative analysis
• Exam and assessment preparation
• IB English A Paper 1, Paper 2 and Individual Oral preparation
My approach is students' needs come first then secondly literature. Instead of simply giving students interpretations to memorize, I teach them how to arrive at their own interpretations by looking closely at the language, structure, characters, context and patterns within a text.
I want students to understand not only WHAT a text means, but HOW and WHY the writer creates that meaning.
Lessons are adapted to the student’s level, programme and goals. Whether you are struggling to understand poetry, unsure how to analyse a quotation, story, novel, finding essay writing difficult, or preparing for an important literature assessment, we can work systematically from the text itself.
I teach British, American and world literature, with particular interests in literature, gender, society, psychology and social issues.
My goal is to make literature feel less like a list of things you have to memorise and more like something you can actually understand, question and discuss.
