Hello and welcome! My name is Mrs Suthagar, and I am really looking forward to supporting you with your Biology learning. I am a Science teacher and Head of Year, and I have experience working with students of different ages, abilities and learning needs. I am passionate about Science and especially enjoy helping students understand how Biology connects to the world around us. I believe that everyone can make progress in Biology with the right support, encouragement and approach. My aim as your tutor is not simply to help you remember facts, but to help you understand the science behind them and develop the confidence to apply your knowledge to different questions and situations. When we work together, I will first get to know you as a learner. Everyone learns differently, so I will take the time to understand what you already know, identify areas where you need additional support and find out what you would like to achieve. We will then work together to create lessons that are focused on your individual needs and goals. My lessons are structured, but I also want them to be enjoyable and interactive. I will explain new ideas clearly and break more challenging topics into manageable sections. We might use diagrams, examples, questions, practical applications and exam-style questions to help you develop your understanding. I will regularly check your understanding rather than simply moving on to the next topic. I also believe that making mistakes is an important part of learning. You will never be made to feel embarrassed for getting something wrong. Instead, we will look at the mistake together, understand why it happened and use it as an opportunity to improve. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, even if you think they are simple or obvious. If you are preparing for GCSE Biology exams, I can also help you develop your exam technique. We will look at how to interpret questions, identify key command words, structure answers and use scientific terminology accurately. We can practise different types of exam questions and review your answers so that you understand how to improve them and gain as many marks as possible. You can expect me to be patient, encouraging and supportive, but I will also have high expectations of you.
