Advert description
Writing can be transformative in the connections it creates. The study of fictional characters and worlds, as well as self-expression through non-fiction writing, provides us with insights into the lives, thoughts and feelings of others. I am passionate about enabling students to express their ideas, developing their confidence alongside their appreciation of the craft and impact of writing.
With the aim of building confidence and encouraging self-expression, I proposed, developed and am now running storytelling clubs for Key Stage 1 students in primary school. I aim to provide a playful, inclusive space for children to freely develop their imaginative ideas and explore their creativity without the pressure of tests and targets.
I recently worked with Chaucer Consultancy to deliver an introductory session in creative writing to Chinese students wishing to study in the United Kingdom. The age and ability range of the group was mixed, as was their confidence in speaking English. Adaptability, flexibility and individual support were therefore key to delivery.
In my private tutoring work, I adapt sessions to each student’s specific and changing needs – spelling with one, confidence and self-expression with another – while developing their capacity to respond to the national curriculum.
Above all, I seek to motivate and engage students in both their own writing and the writing of others, by showing them the impact that writing can have, the levels of meaning and connections that can be created and the joy that can be found in expanding our horizons and exploring other worlds.
