David Tovey was an exceptional mentor during the Arts and Homelessness International Associate Leadership Programme. His mentorship helped me rethink what creative practice truly means. Before working with David, I associated art mainly with traditional forms like painting or drawing. Through our conversations, he helped me see creativity in a much broader way — that life itself can be art. The stories we tell, how we present ourselves, how we advocate, and how we move through the world are all expressions of creative practice. This perspective was transformative for me, particularly as a social worker and advocate. David encouraged me to recognise the power of my lived experience and storytelling as part of my creative and social justice work. His mentorship helped me see that creativity and advocacy are deeply connected. David has a unique ability to help people see their potential and think more expansively about their work and impact.
