Start by explaining the excel layout and step on explaining the basics of excel (how to write a formula, ribbons etc). I will carry on it with starting basic mathematic problems (using symbols and then formula - from + to SUM). I will explain them conditions - IF, AND, OR etc. So that they are comfortable with problems where the answer is dependent on the value of some cells. thereafter I will explain how cell references work - absolute, relative, and mixed - and explain how to make use of each of them. Building on that, I will make them learn about how to deal with relatively large datasets - aggregating functions (Countif, averageifs, maxifs). to top it of - I will explain lookups - vlookup, hlookup & xlookup
