Hello,

My name is Marlon Dias and I have just finished my 1st year in University studying Biomedical Science and I completed my A-Levels just over a year ago. I am also a stutterer and will discuss this later.

Are you a Year 12 student looking to get some extra A-Level Biology revision done over the summer to get ahead of your peers before the next academic year? Are you a Year 11 student who is concerned about the jump between GCSE content and A-Level content? Or are you just eager to get stuck into your A-Levels? If your answer is yes to any of the above then you have come to the right place.

I offer 1-to-1 sessions on A-Level Biology for those students who feel that they want the upper hand in their A-Level exams. My sessions are 1 hour and 30 minutes long and I take lessons once a week. I primarily use PowerPoint to create and present all my lessons.

Each of my lessons are structured as follows:
- 1 hour - Learn the content and answer quiz questions to test contextual knowledge.
- 30 minutes - Exam questions (*Optional).

*If students feel they need more time to understand the content, I spend the 30mins helping them consolidate their knowledge on the content taught the hour before and I answer any questions they may have. This ensures they fully understand the content and feel confident to start practising exam questions.

Additionally, I also teach how to use Microsoft Excel for complete beginners. Microsoft Excel, if used correctly, can make your life a lot easier especially is you own a business or are thinking of starting a business. Using Excel, you can create tables and charts to map out the financial aspects of your business. This gives you a visual representation of the success of your business. Even if your business is not as successful as you wished it to be, Excel can help you spot bottlenecks in your business and fix it as soon as possible. Excel can also be very useful in University. Processing large amounts of data and performing statistical analysis can be done in a few seconds if you know the right functions and formulae to use. This saves valuable time that you can spend writing up reports, spotting patterns and analysing trends rather than spending hours on end writing down mathematical equations, substituting in numbers and getting yourself confused in the process.

However, every great monument needs a firm foundation, otherwise it comes crumbling down. This is why I am also offering a 2 hour tutoring session in which I will teach you how to use Excel effectively. In this 2 hour session I will teach you the following:
- Some key terminology that all beginners should know.
- How to perform the 4 fundamental mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
- How to perform
- How to create simple graphs to visually represent the data from a table.
- How to format cells.
- How to calculate the mean, median, mode and range.
- I will then put all this together and teach you how to create a basic table for a mini business.

I also mentioned earlier that I am a stutterer. My stutter has been with me from a very young age and as I have grown I have become more anxious about it, especially when I became a young adult. I have heard that it is during a persons teenage years that they come to terms with themselves and try and find out who they are. During this process teenagers tend to compare themselves to others more often than they should. This trend is becoming increasingly common these days due to the developments in social media.

As a teenager myself I too began to compare the way I spoke to the way that others spoke and I soon became very anxious about talking in public. I even became nervous at the thought of putting my hand up in class. I was fortunate to have a friend group that did not judge me for my stuttering and rather supported me. However, I am aware that there are many young people in the world today that are not privileged to have friends like mine.

This is why I want my tutoring sessions to be a form of respite for stutterers where they can show up each week knowing that there is a person they can talk to who will not judge them and who will not laugh at them. As my classes are also 1-to-1 this also takes away to added stress of talking in front of a group of people. I am a stutter myself and as a result I will be in a good position to understand your feelings as I have probably felt them before to some degree.
