First of all I seek to familiarise students with common nouns, verbs and adjectives with intermittent opportunities to recognise and develop sentence structure woven in. So that by the time we are conjugating, basic sentences can come together. From this we can build one way stories and two-way and group conversations. Then tone and conventions can be introduced.
The pace is set completely by the learner. Calm encouragement with frequent opportunities for reflection, revision and connective summaries that aid the learner to independently arrive at blanket connections that facilitate the internalising of convention. My super power is listening and picking up on cues inherent in the learners navigating of translation from native language to English. Whether we know it or not even mistakes in English are useful in helping us to arrive at a more natural form of the language.
