Advert description
Skills and Experience
I am a native French speaker and a fully qualified teacher holding a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from St Mary’s University, Twickenham. I also have a BEd in French and History from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana and a Diploma in French Studies from the Université de Lomé in Togo. These qualifications, together with teaching experience in both Ghana and the United Kingdom, have given me a solid foundation in language teaching and a clear understanding of how learners of different ages and backgrounds acquire French.
In Ghana I taught French at the University of Cape Coast Senior High School. I planned and delivered lessons, prepared students for examinations and provided pastoral support as a form tutor. I also worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Cape Coast, leading oral comprehension sessions and tutorials that helped first-year undergraduates develop confidence in spoken French, pronunciation and listening. Outside the classroom I gained further communication experience as an administrative assistant and interpreter for the Ghana Athletics Federation, acting as a liaison with Francophone countries and interpreting at conferences.
In the UK I completed my PGCE placements at Isleworth & Syon School and Harlington School. I planned and taught engaging French and Spanish lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, developing pupils’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. I adapted my teaching for students with SEND, EAL and Pupil Premium needs through scaffolding, sentence builders, targeted questioning and one-to-one support. I also served as co-form tutor and completed full safeguarding training. Mentor feedback consistently highlighted my secure subject knowledge, clear explanations and calm classroom presence.
Since finishing my PGCE, I have continued to broaden my experience. I currently work as a teaching assistant at Ashley Park School, a specialist SEND setting, and I have also worked in other SEND schools, where I support students with a range of additional needs every day, adapting tasks and communication to individual requirements and building trusting relationships. I also teach conversational French to adult learners at Windsor College in the evenings, focusing on speaking and listening confidence.
