Maths Taught by Analogy" from a Math Graduate, algorithm developer and Tutor for 20 years - online or in person tuition

Hi, I graduated with a 2:1 in Maths and spent 20 years building algorithms for a living as well as part-time tutoring. I tutored my own two children for entrance exams to one of the top 50 independent schools in the UK and both were awarded 75% discounted fees through a mixture of scholarships based purely on their math skills.

I tutor the following age groups with a structured syllabus for each student:
- as young as year 3, focusing on the foundations of basic maths to ensure greater cohesion in the later years
- long term preparation for 11+ and independent school entrance exams
- 6 week intensive courses for 11+ and independent school entrance exams
- year 10 & 11 GCSE top up tutorials focusing on areas of weak and syllabus consolidation
- final preparation for GCSE exams, with a strong focus on revision and exam techniques

After an initial 60 minute free evaluation, I create a bespoke program that focuses heavily on areas that need improvement to avoid wasting time and resources on concepts that are already well grasped. I make heavy use of "Maths Taught by Analogy" whereby we bring the problem into a concept that is more familiar to each student, thus making it more relatable and easy to remember. As each part of the syllabus is completed and the concept is grasped, we consolidate the information through a series of exercises meaning there is minimal homework and therefore becomes less of a chore for the student and hopefully a lesson they look forward to.
