Advert description
I privately tutor lots of family, and friends and tutored in my Sixth form, I've read multiple books in the psychology of learning my favourite being 'make it stick'. I structure lessons with an opening challenge that pulls from previous foundational knowledge whilst pushing it to its peak to test how much conceptually students understand the topic, this opener is designed to be difficult and expected to not be answered completely. Following on I will provide them more grounding in said concepts before going into example where we look at methods. I explain why the method behind a question works using the previous concepts taught before going onto practice questions were its primarily independent with breaks in between where I get the students to do questions which I believe challenge them on their conceptual knowledge, assuming all the work is done I give them new work this time incorporating the topic in a more nuanced context where perhaps they have to pull knowledge from previous topics and blend different ideas together. In a GCSE context this maybe looking at how straight line graphs interact with quadratics. In a A level context this might be how trigonometry interacts with vectors. I also hold the belief that its important to listen to student feedback as class results are more of a reflection of a teacher rather then the students themselves.
