I’m GEN, a Japanese teacher currently based in Japan. I was born and raised in Kobe, Japan, and I teach Japanese online to students around the world.

I completed a 420-hour Japanese language teacher training course and have experience teaching Japanese to students from different countries.

I teach Japanese from complete beginner to upper-intermediate level. Whether you are learning Japanese for travel, everyday communication, work, personal interest, or an exam, I can tailor lessons to your goals and level.

For students preparing for the JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test), I provide structured support from N5 to N2, including grammar, reading and listening practice. If you are not familiar with the JLPT, it is a widely recognised Japanese language proficiency test with levels ranging from N5, the easiest level, to N1, the most advanced level.

I also focus on something that textbooks do not always explain clearly: the differences in nuance between similar Japanese expressions. I can explain not only whether an expression is grammatically correct, but also when and why Japanese people actually use it.

In conversation lessons, you will have plenty of opportunities to speak. I provide feedback, help you improve your sentences, and give you opportunities to use the corrected expressions again. The goal is not simply to understand Japanese, but to become able to use it naturally.

If you are a complete beginner, I can guide you step by step from the basics. If you already have some Japanese knowledge, we can focus on improving your speaking, grammar, comprehension, or fluency.
