Advert description
Hi! I’m Amu, a second-year PhD student at the University of Oxford.
I support those learning Japanese (beginner-intermediate), with a strong focus on language and cultural understanding.
I’m half Japanese and have spent several years living and working in Japan (mainly in Kanagawa and Tokyo). I also hold an N1 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) which means I can support you not only in preparing for the exam, but also in learning how to use real every-day language, whether that’s for casual conversation, for more formal settings or to understand important cultural nuances.
I can help you:
・Build a strong foundation in Japanese
・Prepare for the JLPT (N5–N2)
・Improve your speaking and listening ability
・Teach you about Japanese culture and important nuances that are difficult to pick up
I’ve previously helped students improve their Japanese skills informally but now I want to offer structured, personalised lessons.
During our first lesson, we’ll identify your current level, your strengths and any areas for improvement before building a clear plan tailored to your goals. I focus on helping you develop well-rounded skills so you’re not just learning from a textbook, but actually putting your skills to use in a way that matches your interests.
If you’re looking for a tutor who has native cultural insight, real experience living and working in Japan, understands the difficulties of learning a language as a non-native speaker and who can explain difficult points in English feel free to get in touch!
