English Literature tutor for GCSE and A-Level

About Me

I am currently completing an undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of St Andrews, having achieved an A* in A-Level English Literature. My A* was not simply the result of natural talent, but of consistency, active recall and learning how to revise effectively. I want to share the revision methods and experience that helped me succeed with students of all abilities, whether they are aiming to build confidence, improve their grades or achieve the very highest marks.

I have experience tutoring English and Maths to primary and secondary school students through schools in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. I have also helped friends with their A-Level studies, particularly English Literature, by supporting them with revision techniques, essay writing and finding useful critical material.

My Approach

I believe tutoring should be tailored to each individual student. At the beginning, I will identify your strengths, weaknesses and goals so that we can focus our time where it will make the biggest difference.

I place a strong emphasis on active recall rather than simply rereading notes. I will regularly test you on material we have covered and return to areas you find more difficult, helping you develop knowledge that you can confidently recall under exam conditions.

Once you have a strong understanding of the content, we will move towards exam-style questions and essay practice. For English Literature, this can include developing arguments, selecting and analysing quotations, creating essay plans, incorporating context and critical interpretations, and learning how to directly answer the question being asked.

I also believe feedback is essential to improvement. I will actively identify patterns in your mistakes and explain how you can improve, rather than simply correcting your work. Where possible, I am also happy to look over essays or exam questions you have completed outside of our sessions, as I want your effort between sessions to contribute towards your progress.
