I have three years of experience working in schools and private tuition.

In my lessons we will go through texts together, word by word and examine the deeper meaning behind each text. Sometimes it is obvious, sometimes it is obscured and sometimes there are multiple interpretations to be found.

I will teach you the historical context, in depth and breadth, of each text and their authors.

We will also go through all of your essays and creative writing together and make sure we can maximise your strengths and fill in any gaps. I place particular emphasis on writing style and wording. Often it is how well we can argue our point that matters more than the point itself.

Writing is as much about confidence as it is about practice. I always aim to build the confidence of my students.

I greatly welcome alternative opinions and interpretations of texts and see this as an important part of analysis.

I have found in my work that most students are far more competent than they believe once given some encouragement.
