Calm, skilled tutor supporting EAL children’s English development.

Advert description
I am a calm, patient and highly experienced teacher with more than twenty‑two years in education, specialising in language development, phonics, literacy and inclusive practice. My academic background includes a Licenciatura in Teacher Training in English and German, a degree in Religious Studies, and a Master’s in Religious Sciences. These qualifications strengthened my understanding of linguistics, communication, psychology, sociology and pedagogy, all of which directly support my work with EAL learners. I have taught in diverse school settings and supported pupils with a wide range of needs, including EAL, SEND, ASD, ADHD and SEMH, giving me a strong foundation in adapting teaching to individual learners. Throughout my career, I have taught Year 3 and Year 4 in two contrasting schools, both with significant numbers of EAL pupils. In these roles, I supported children who were new to English, those who needed targeted vocabulary development, and those who required structured intervention to strengthen reading, writing, speaking and listening. I have extensive experience teaching phonics, decoding, spelling patterns, grammar and reading comprehension, and I understand how first‑language interference affects English acquisition. My lessons are calm, structured and predictable, helping learners feel safe, supported and able to take risks without fear of making mistakes. My linguistics training enables me to break down language into manageable steps and teach English systematically. I use clear modelling, repetition, guided practice and visual scaffolds to help learners internalise new vocabulary and structures. I also draw on my experience as an MFL leader to teach vocabulary explicitly, using images, gestures, real‑life examples and contextualised practice to support retention. I am culturally sensitive and aware of how identity, background and confidence influence a child’s willingness to speak, participate and take risks in learning. My lessons are aimed at children who need structured, supportive and personalised EAL teaching. This includes pupils who are new to English, those who need help accessing the curriculum, and those who require targeted intervention to strengthen academic language. I work with learners who need support in phonics, reading comprehension, writing accuracy, grammar, vocabulary development and oral fluency. I also support children
