Advert description
Hello, I'm Laurraine. I'm a second-year Urban Planning student at Loughborough University, and I live in Barcelona outside term time. I have advanced Spanish alongside fluent English and French, and I worked as a self-employed English tutor for five years, from 2018 to 2023. What you can expect in a session
Every lesson has a clear purpose. At the start we agree a goal, such as holding a conversation, understanding a grammar point or preparing for a test, and at the end we check whether we reached it. I keep explanations short and practical, then move quickly to you using the language, because that is where learning happens. You will not be talked at for an hour.
How I teach:
I begin by finding out where you are. In the first session we talk, I listen for what you already do well and where you hesitate, and we agree a realistic plan together. From there I adjust the pace to you: slowing down on anything unclear and moving on when you are ready.
I explain grammar in plain English, use examples from everyday situations, and link vocabulary to the culture it comes from. I live in Barcelona and I am a member of Loughborough's Spanish-Latino Society, so I can show you how Spanish is used in real life, not only in textbooks.
Feedback and progress:
I correct mistakes gently and explain why something is wrong, so the same error does not keep coming back. After each session I will send a short summary of what we covered and one or two things to practise before the next one. Every few weeks we look back at your goal and adjust the plan if we need to.
Reliability and communication:
I arrive on time and prepared, with a plan for the session. I study full time, so I am upfront about my availability, I give notice of any change as early as I can, and I keep to the schedule we agree. I have a completed DBS check, a reliable internet connection and a laptop for video lessons.
What I ask of you:
A little regular practice goes a long way. Bring your questions, make mistakes freely, and tell me when something is not
