I’m a friendly, patient and approachable English tutor who genuinely enjoys helping people learn and become more confident.

I am excited to apply for the Work from Home English Tutor (ESL) position. I have recently completed my Level 5 TEFL qualification and am looking forward to using my skills and experience to support people in developing their English and, importantly, their confidence in using it. My interest in tutoring has grown through my experience as a Reading Volunteer with Chapter One, where I worked one-to-one with a student who was experiencing difficulties with reading. Each week, I provided a 30-minute online reading session using a structured literacy programme. I really enjoyed getting to know the student, building their confidence and finding ways to make the sessions supportive and enjoyable. The experience also taught me how important patience, encouragement and adapting your approach are when working with an individual learner. My previous career has been in sustainability and environmental management, where communication and working with people have always been a big part of my role. I have delivered training and workshops, given presentations, coached and mentored colleagues, and worked with people from many different backgrounds and levels of experience. I have often had to explain complex subjects in a clear and accessible way, and I genuinely enjoy helping people understand something that may initially seem difficult. I believe these experiences have given me many of the qualities needed to be a good English tutor. I am patient, approachable and a good listener, and I understand that learners have different needs, personalities and levels of confidence. I would aim to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable speaking English, asking questions and making mistakes without feeling self-conscious. I am also comfortable working independently and using online and digital platforms, having worked extensively in remote and technology-based environments throughout my career. I am organised, reliable and committed to making each session useful and engaging for the learner. I am now looking forward to starting this new chapter in my career and would love the opportunity to help ESL learners improve their English while becoming more confident in communicating with others.
